Imperialism in Southeast Asia

Imperialism was different for all of the nations in Southeast Asia that experienced it. Great Brittan was a little more liberal in its reign over most of Southeast Asia. They maintained good records respecting the rule laws, civil liberties, political liberties etc. It was willing to allow their colonies to become independent. This goes for the U.S. too. The Spanish, Dutch, and French were more repressive towards their colonies. They took over the politics and limited their civil liberties. Political activities were taken care of by the colonial countries and modern education was restricted to certain social groups. And there was a lot of corruption in the Spanish and French colonial governments. Most of the population of these countries would go hungry because most of the crops were for exportation. The Europeans would battle each other for the territories not bothering about the population of the nations they were invading.
